Why People Send Free E-Cards On Independence Day

Every year in America on Independence Day people send millions of free e-cards to friends and family. A commemoration of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, Independence Day is a celebration of American values as stated in the infamous document that formally separated the American colonies from the British Empire. The Declaration of Independence was passed unanimously by the thirteen colonies and was adopted at the Continental Congress held in Philadelphia.
This decision came about as a result and a legal and political extension of the Revolutionary War effort, which was already well under way. Although the colonist soldiers continued to battle British troops for several more years before defending their independence physically, the Declaration of Independence proclaimed the birth of a new nation. It was quite some time, in fact twelve years, before the United States Constitution was ratified by the states of the then fledgling nation.
Though many types of the pyrotechnical devices used by cities to mark the occasion are prohibited from private festivities, the 4th of July is the height of the fireworks retail season in the United States. The traditions of Independence Day have always been based around patriotic displays and energetic gatherings, whether in the form of parades, canon firings, raising of the flag and saluting it, music, food, and of course, fireworks.
These activities are used to demonstrate the spirit of the holiday and are to this day enthusiastically carried out throughout the country. Independence Day, besides being a celebration of the separatist historical turn for the thirteen colonies of the New World, is also the major midsummer festival in the United States, calling people to use the season to enhance their commemoration of the event. Barbeques, cookouts, block parties, picnics, and assemblies are held at such prominent locations as the Mall in Washington, D.C. People come to witness lavish fireworks displays as well as other traditional ways of celebrating national holidays that fall during the summer.
In 1783, Boston, Massachusetts became the first city in the United States to name July 4th an official holiday in celebration of Independence Day. The first newspaper to print the text of the Declaration of Independence was the Pennsylvania Evening Post, which did so on July 6, 1776. Thomas Jefferson and John Adams died on July 4, 1826, the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. They had both signed the document and served as President of the United States.
If the 4th of July should fall on a Sunday, the celebrations are postponed until the following day in most of the country. Some localities defy that practice by holding their Independence Day festivities a day early.
In recent years people have begun to send free e-cards to each other to celebrate Independence Day. There is now a great choice of these free e-cards to choose from and many of them are in a patriotic style. The great thing about sending ecards on Independence Day is that the recipient can immediately send you another card back because it is an instantaneous process. Last year in America there were several million ecards sent to friends and family.

Where Would You Look For Cheap Beach Vacations
Do you love beach vacations but find them too expensive? Is it possible to find cheap beach vacations, and if so where would you go to find them?
Yes you can find cheap beach vacations, but you need to make sure you look in the right place. Don’t look for a beach holiday for the family at a premier beach resort at the height of the season and expect to buy it at a bargain. You might, but probably not.
What you need to do is to research the beach resorts that are close to the major well known resorts and try and find one or more that is in the same area but not nearly as well known. The famous and popular beach resorts don’t need to offer cheap deals to attract people to their resort, they come anyway.
They are already well known for their sand and sun and surf and they have a ready made supply of people who love it there and probably come back to the same beach resort year after year. And they don’t care if it’s cheap or expensive, if they’ve been there already they can afford it and so they don’t need to find cheap deals to attract them there and the resort doesn’t need to offer cheap vacations to attract the clientele.
However it is highly likely that if there is a few well known popular and expensive beach resorts in a particular location there will be others that are less well known, less popular and so less expensive. And probably just as good as the popular ones. Possibly even better because they won’t be as crowded as the popular beach vacation destinations and you’ll be able to sit on the beach without being surrounded by a crowd.
And if there are newer beach vacation destinations trying to break into the market they need to offer cheap beach vacation packages to attract visitors at first before they start to attract regular yearly visitors.
So don’t just focus your efforts at finding a discount beach vacation on the major resorts, you may be disappointed. Spend a little time and try and find out what else there is in the area and you may find a wonderful beach resort in the same area, less expensive and perhaps less crowded than the one next door.
And of course select the time that you want to go. Prices are a factor of supply and demand, and supply stays reasonable constant throughout the year, but demand changes spectacularly. In high season in the major beach vacation destinations the prices go through the roof. So try and find time that allows you to go when demand is a little lower and you may find some great beach vacation deals.
For example school holidays is peak time, so why not consider taking the kids away during school time instead. It won’t hurt for them to miss a week of school and it may mean finding a hot beach vacation at a price that you can afford and the kids will love, or no beach holiday at all.
And if you’re canny and know where to look you can also find beach vacation deals online. Perhaps someone has purchased a beach holiday and been unable to go for some reason, and need to sell it online fast, and cheap. Or perhaps the beach resorts have some unfilled places which they want to fill fast, and cheap.
There ARE places online where you can find cheap beach vacations that are at a price that will allow you and your family to frolic on the beach at a price that you can afford.
You just need to do some homework.

Labor Day Weekend in Austin
Labor Day weekend in Austin this year promises every imaginable kind of activity, with something for everyone, young and old, in the works. Some choices for end of summer fun locally include Texas Longhorn events, the Austin Bat Fest, and a day of yoga, among other celebrations. If you’re a sports fan, the Texas Longhorns are playing a home game the Saturday before Labor Day, and the game will be held in Darrel K. Royal Memorial Stadium, as usual.
The beginning of Longhorn football season in Austin is always a day filled with excitement and anticipation, and this year is no different from any other, so get out your burnt orange and white clothing and head to the U.T. campus for a day of competition and rivalry.
Another popular event is being organized for its fourth year this year, the 4th Annual Austin Bat Fest, which will be held on and around the Ann Richards Bridge Saturday and Sunday prior to Labor Day. This event promises various activities, musical performances, a diverse choice of food and drink, and many other family-oriented arts, crafts, educational displays, and other bat-related festivities.
The estimated attendance for BatFest is about 40,000 spectators and participants, so come early to see and hear thirty different musical acts perform on two different stages and watch as over 1.5 million Mexican free tail bats soar over the clear waters of Lady Bird Lake and the Austin skyline. This event partially supports the bats and their colony under the downtown bridge and admittance is just $5.00, so come out and see what all is being offered at the 150 different booths which will be set up in the festival area, on the Congress Avenue Bridge, which was recently renamed to honor former Texas Governor Ann Richards.
While there, you can sample the different cuisines or enjoy shopping among the numerous offerings of stained glass, pottery, art objects, photography, jewelry, fine art, and other eclectic goods being sold at the festival. The event will remain open until midnight Saturday night and ten p.m. Sunday night, so there will be plenty of time to shop and celebrate during this event.
Another sporting event being held over the Labor Day weekend in the Austin area is the 7th annual Labor Day Cup, which is a soccer tournament for children which serves as a kind of practice for the coming season, and this event is being sponsored by Nike this year and promises fun for all. The games are being played at fields throughout the Austin area and the tournament is being organized by the Lonestar Soccer Club. In addition to the soccer tournament, a tennis tournament is also being held over Labor Day weekend in the Austin area, and those interested in participating may sign up online for both the soccer tournament and the tennis tournament, which is affiliated with the U.S. Tennis Association.
A free day of Yoga is being held again this year on Labor Day too, as it has been since 1999, and this event is the perfect opportunity to learn the different styles of yoga as well as become familiar with different teachers and studios, at an inviting price: free! The classes are being held at studios across town, and some individual studios are offering food and drinks after the classes as well, and participants are invited to stay, relax and enjoy the day.
Many water-related parties are also on tap, and one of these events is the Splash Days event which celebrates the gay community and includes an “adult swim” party with D.J.s and a dance. Some of the related activities will be held at a downtown hotel and a schedule is available online for this event too.
There are many other smaller events being held, and many celebrations on and around Lake Travis as well as Lake Austin, with cookouts being planned in local parks and other facilities. However, it is important to remember that motorized water c rafts are prohibited on some area lakes during the holiday, and the waters of Lake Travis are very low this year, so boaters are being advised to use caution when boating in area lakes at this time. There are many other choices of activities in the Austin area, and since the Labor Day weekend marks the end of the lazy days of summer and a return to school for the kids, use your time wisely and enjoy the day relaxing, celebrating, and having fun, since you won’t get another chance until next year!

Great Sailing Vacation in Turkey
Turkey is a country rich in culture. On one end, you have the ruins of ancient civilizations while on the other; you have modern marinas that make it an ideal venue to start your Turkish sailing vacation. Turkey is a moderately developed nation with a wide range of tourist facilities of all classes in the main tourist destinations.
Charter boats in Turkey departs from Bodrum, Marmaris, Gocek. This will allow you to go to Antalya, Fethiye, Gocek, Dalyan, and Kusadasi all the way up to the Greek islands and back. When you shop for the right boat, you will notice that there are three types to choose from. These are namely crewed sailing yacht, the gulet and the bareboat.
Crewed Charter Boat – The crewed charter comes with a permanent crew so you don’t have to worry about anything. They will not only take control of the ship or cook food but they can teach you a thing or two about sailing so you can do this on your own some day and act as your tour guide through the voyage. These vessels may measure form 46 to 75 feet in length that can accommodate up to 8 guests.
Gulet Boat – The gullet boat was once a fishing vessel but now, many of them are built for charter holidays. They are very spacious inside and outside so you can eat comfortably or sunbathe. The foredeck is normally covered cushions and the side decks are spacious enough for people both young and old. They are much bigger than the crewed chartered yachts as they measure from 50 to 100 feet which allows it to hold 16 guests in double and triple cabins. Each cabin in the Gulet has its own separate shower and toilet facilities. The vessel runs on engine power but if the winds are strong, the sails are set so the Mediterranean breeze will show the way.
The Barerboat Yatch – The bareboat yacht is a little different from the other two because they are smaller and it doesn’t need to be run by a professional crew. The only requirement is that one of you should have a skipper’s license or certificate from a sailing organization that states your experience in seamanship & offshore navigation.
The best part about the bareboat is that it is up to you how long your charter will be unlike the rest that have a standard package. You can drop anchor anywhere you want since you are the one that sets the itinerary so there is no pressure.
You can find charter companies for your Turkey sailing vacation in magazines and online. Some of these sites have pictures of the vessel so you have an idea how it looks like before you confirm your trip.
If you are not sure yet that you want to confirm with this charter company, just fill up their form so you are able to get a quote and then use this together with the rest to make a comparison on which one is the best.
The best time for a sailing vacation in Turkey is either early or late in the season that is between April to mid-July and from mid-September to end October when the skies are generally clear. You can also plan your trip during May and June but keep in mind that the weather here is going to be very hot. Winds are generally between 15 to 20 knots that happen to be lower than Greece.

Sicily is an autonomous region of Italy.Sicily covers the largest land area at 25,708 square km and currently has 5 million inhabitants. It is also the largest island in the Mediterranean Sea.In addition, several much smaller islands surrounding it are also considered to be part of Sicily. When it comes to vacation destinations above the water, it is almost synonymous to an island treat like Sicily with many sailing vacations.
If you opt for Sicily sailing vacations, it is best to opt for a crewed boat to have more time relishing and admiring the beauty of the surroundings. Although a bareboat will give you a sense of adventure, this is not advisable for first time sailors because they might miss out important details of the trip when they have to attend to something. Since you are the only one and you don’t have any crew member or captain to help you out, you will be obliged to fend for yourself. By doing this, you will have little time to enjoy the beauty that unfold before your very eyes.
The amazing waters of the Sicilian sea would impress you. The variety of beaches as well as the magnificent lava rocks and creations that come in black, white, and gold sand is truly a sight not to be miss.
Aboard the boat during Sicily sailing vacations, you will also get a good view of the magnificent sunset foregrounded by breathtaking landscapes such as the mountains.
The basic route for Sicily sailing vacations includes the Alcantara Gorges, the Taormina, the Catania, the Mt. Etna, and the Syracuse. The route also includes a visit to various villages as well as to various islets within the area. Usually, Sicily sailing vacations are designed for comfort in getting the best trip in the area.
When it comes to accommodation, the Turkish caique is available. It comes in double or twin cabins and you should at least be flexible enough to share space on board if needed. When it comes to food, local Sicilian dishes are being served to complement the ultimate Sicilian experience. However, you can also choose other cuisines that are offered aboard.
When it comes to transportation, these are provided and come in good condition. All throughout the Sicilian sailing vacations, the English-speaking tour guides will be present during excursions to answer your inquiries about the place’s history or any of the Sicilian culture.
Usually, the ideal length of Sicily sailing vacations range from 8 days and 7 nights including land travels. When coming in small groups, the ideal number of persons ranges from 6 to 10 participants. Since Sicily sailing vacations include flights fees, it is recommended that travelers come a day before the exact date of the trip to ensure that everything will be properly taken care of before everybody gets aboard.
To ensure great Sicily sailing vacations, make sure that you have an idea what to expect from the place. You can get information from the Internet by browsing various websites that offer free information on Sicily. Once you have an initial idea what to expect, you can now pack your things that will be needed for the trip.
Make sure that you used strong duffel bags compared to bulky suitcases to ensure your comfort. In terms of things to be packed, opt for a minimal amount of clothing and toiletries since some of them are available on board. Also, check your travel documents before leaving.

Great Sailing Vacation in the Caribbean
The Caribbean islands are classified as one of Conservation International’s biodiversity hotspots because they support exceptionally diverse ecosystems, ranging from montane cloud forests to cactus scrublands.
The Caribbean islands are part of an island chain stretching 2,500 miles. Given the vast distance, it is no wonder that tourists spend weeks out here to enjoy the paradise it has to offer. With a population of nearly 40 million people, the Caribbean islands are an island chain 4,020 kilometres (2,500 miles) long and no more than 257 kilometres (160 mi) wide at any given point. They enclose the Caribbean Sea.
There are lots of sailing destinations and if you are tired of the Virgin Islands then move on over to the Caribbean. Just like the Virgin Islands, there are a lot of charter companies which you can go to. They come in different sizes and perhaps the best that is a bit expensive is the chartered yacht. Aside from the yacht, the other features and benefits that come with it include meals, separate guest rooms, a galley, toilet and shower.
Since you are the guest aboard the ship, you can customize the menu by telling the crew before the trip what you will be stocking up on. You can do this by buying the stuff yourself, having someone from the crew do it for an additional fee or select from one of their pre-selected packages.
Naturally, your supplies will dwindle as you stay longer at sea. This means that you have to stock up on supplies once again when you reach your next port of destination by going to the supermarket.
Food purchased from the stalls is usually wrapped in newspaper. Since it will be hard to carry, it is best to go thee with your own sacks or bags. Once you return to the ship, make sure the crew washes it several times before this is consumed.
Since most of the islands here are small and uninhabited, you are sure to explore places that not many have seen. You can even jump from the ship and swim in the crystal clear waters or even snorkel and dive when all the equipment you need to do such things are already on board.
But if you can’t afford to rent a chartered yacht, don’t worry because you can probably get one that will cost as little as $50 if you are able to schedule a pre-arranged trip with several other guests to split the bill.
One thing you have to be prepared for during you sailing vacation is the possibility of a hurricane. This generally occurs during the months of June until November. If you are not sure that this is the best time, reschedule the trip on another date as these things come and go.
But if you insist on going, there are some online tools you can use to check if the area you will be saying has ever been hit before by a hurricane.
The other option is to plan your itinerary to the islands further south because these are less likely to be affected by a hurricane. These places include the islands of Aruba, Barbados, Bonaire, Curacao, and Turks and Caicos.
A sailing vacation in the Caribbean could be what you are looking for the next time you want to go on leave. Some of the things you see here are just breathtaking and you will never find this anywhere in the globe.
To help you get started on booking for Caribbean sailing vacation, you can look for a good deal either in magazines or online. If you are not sure which one is best, ask people you know who have tried it before or ask for the contact number of previous clients.

Independence Day in Austin
Independence Day is quickly approaching, and there are many ways to celebrate the birth of our country in Austin and the surrounding area. There are numerous fireworks displays as well as performances by the Austin Symphony Orchestra, and other musical events in different locales in the county area. Until a few years ago, the huge, city-sponsored pyrotechnics display was held downtown over Lady Bird Lake, which was called Town Lake then, but the yearly celebration moved to Zilker Park a few years ago.
The celebration will be held again over the lake this year, and the event, which is sponsored by the HEB grocery chain, will feature the Austin Symphony Orchestra under the apt musical direction of Peter Bay.
The 1812 Overture, accompanied by 75-millimeter Howitzer cannons, courtesy of the Texas National Guard Salute Battery, is usually the centerpiece of the yearly city fireworks display, and this year the celebration will be held at Auditorium Shores in front of the new Long Center for the Performing Arts, on the south shore of Lady Bird Lake. Many residents and visitors bring picnics and lawn chairs to the fireworks show, and concessions are available at the site.
No alcohol or glass containers are permitted, but many food items and other party favors, such as the ever-popular neon light sticks and jewelry, are offered for sale by vendors who set up booths on the perimeter of the grounds of Auditorium Shores. The celebration officially begins at 8:30pm, and frequently more than 100,000 people attend the yearly event. It is illegal to set off fireworks in the city limit, so the city-sponsored event, with the support of HEB, is the perfect way to enjoy the fireworks without the danger of setting them off yourself in the City of Austin.
Other nearby celebrations include the Frontier Days celebration in Round Rock, a small city north of Austin, which includes a parade which winds down Main Street and ends up in Old Settler’s Park, and this event includes fireworks as well as arts and crafts, free watermelon, and a reenactment of the Sam Bass shootout during the Western Traditions themed celebration. This year, a skydiver will jump into the crowd at the Independence Day event!
In nearby San Marcos, which is a short drive south on Interstate 35, the San Marcos Summerfest is held in San Marcos Plaza Park, which is on the banks of the beautiful San Marcos River. This is the 28th year the celebration has been held, and various musical acts will perform, including a blues band from L.A. This event also includes fireworks, a children’s parade and costume contest, and the Lion’s Club tube rental will be open in City Park all day for those who are brave enough to tube on the river during the event. What a great way to watch the fireworks, floating down the river!
Other celebrations that include fireworks closer to home include the yearly Lake Travis fireworks display, which is held at Volente Beach on the north shore of the lake. This event has a $3.00 admission charge, but celebrants may also gain admission by bringing a gently used book to donate. There is also an all day celebration in the city of Lakeway, at the city park, which includes a parade with floats and contests. This event culminates with the fireworks display, held right after sunset. Many visitors to this celebration arrive by boat from nearby homes and communities, and by the evening, Hurst Cove, which is where the boats gather, is crowded with spectators ready to watch the gorgeous display over the clear waters of Lake Travis.
Carlos and Charlie’s restaurant rounds out the lake area celebrations, with a yearly display in Devil’s Cove, where the restaurant is located, which draws a very large crowd too. There are many ways to celebrate the birth of the nation in Austin, and most are free as well as family-oriented, so make plans now for the event of your choice!

The History of Sleigh Bells
For many people, the melodic, rhythmic ringing of sleigh bells brings along inescapable images of winter and snowfall and the smell of Christmas, but were you aware that it goes much deeper than that? Sleigh bells have been with us for a very long time, and though we might be most accustomed to them in picturesque depictions a Victorian horse and carriage traveling through the snow, they actually go back quite a ways earlier!
Though today we’ll find them everywhere, the bells that we know as sleigh bells were once only used for horses. Archaeologists have found similar bells in England, and the most early ones date back to when the Romans inhabited the northern lands. This means that these bells have been a part of the horse’s harness for well over a thousand years. With this in mind, it can be thought that the bells were quite desirable, and they could be considered a sign of wealth and status.
You could also find single bells, extravagantly made of gold or silver, being used to decorate the warhorses during the Medieval age. These bells, called crotals, were definitely a sign of conspicuous consumption, and the ringing of these bells was thought to bring good luck and to ward off evil spirits and diseases.
It was not known when these ringing bells became common for wagons or sleighs, but it can be thought that the served both a decorative and a practical function. While of course everyone smiles to hear the cheerful ringing of sleighbells, they could also warn other people that there was a coach coming along the way, and on foggy nights, this could have saved lives. Sleighs can be difficult to stop without notice, and in many places, bells were required for the protection of those on the road.
During the nineteenth century, there was a fairly strong demand for sleigh bells, and they were mass produced in East Hampton, Connecticut. The bells that were made in this location were popular throughout the country, and these bells would adorn racing sleighs during competitions and the sleighs of people who just wanted to get around during the winter.
For many people, the first contact that they had with sleighbells was through the incredibly popular Christmas carol, known as “Jingle Bells,” though originally, it’s composer, James Pierpont called it “One Horse Open Sleigh.” Written in the mid 1800’s, this song is still sung at Christmas time and has been translated into many languages.
From ancient Roman times to the present, it is clear that sleigh bells hold a popular appeal, whether they are on a horse, or in our songs!
Author collects Antique restrapped Brass Sleigh Bells and is an authority on the history of sleigh bells.
