The Pros And Cons Of Temporary Labor
July 25, 2008 by CashMiller
Often in business you run into labor shortages. Your business is expanding at a rapid pace. Maybe you’ve won the bidding on a large job. Whatever the reason you are in the position of needing more help and quickly. The question is whether hiring some form of temporary labor is the right thing to do for your company? Well to figure out the answer to that question you need to know some of the pros and cons of hiring temporary labor.
So let’s start with some of the benefits of using temporary labor. One is the ease of finding an agency that can be used to facilitate hiring the workers you need. There are plenty of agencies out there that help to supply workers to companies in need. Many of them even specialize in workers for different industries. If you are in need of an accountant you can find one. Do you need clerical help, warehouse workers, or delivery drivers? Well you can find all of them too. So finding the help you need won’t necessarily be that hard of a task.
Another advantage is that the people that are hired through a temp agency are interviewed and their references checked. That way they can make sure that person is the best qualified for your businesses needs. Also when you no longer need them you can inform the agency and let them go. If the time comes that you need someone else you can go back to the agency and request that someone be sent out. Also if you find that the person that was sent to you is not suited for your work environment or that you are just not comfortable with them you can ask for a replacement.
Okay so now that we know some of the pros what’s the downside of it all? Well for starters the cost. Now for certain positions this is not a problem. A good accountant can be worth every penny. But what if you need a warehouse worker? You could find that your temp workers will cost your company more than your regular workers do. Because you are not paying the worker directly. They receive their wages from the agency. The agency sends you their bill. But just like most other things involving money everyone needs their cut. The employee needs to be paid, the agency needs to make money, insurance on the worker needs to be covered, taxes have to be paid, and whatever other expenses are associated with the worker.
Another factor to consider is what happens if you find a worker you’d like to hire full time. Often they have a contract with their agency. The contracts are usually for a set period of time. You can either employ the worker until the contract runs out and then hire them or many of their contracts have buyout options. Which means you can purchase the contract of the employee from the agency. The problem with the second option is that the buyout price can run in the thousands of dollars depending on how much time is left on the contract.
So whether you choose to go the route of hiring temporary labor or not is up to you. You just need to do some research first. Check into the labor companies in your area. Find out the various costs associated with the type of worker you are looking for. You’ll find there are plenty of agencies and workers out there for you to choose from.

When Business is Slow, It’s the Best Time to Market
July 24, 2008 by pchamp

I’ve noticed that when the economy slows down, many of my clients stop marketing their businesses because they’re afraid to spend the money. I think this is a big mistake!
When business slows down, it’s a great time to increase your marketing. Why? Two reasons.
First, you’re looking to get more business and one of the most effective ways to achieve this is through marketing.
Second, since so many other businesses are slowing down their marketing, any that you do for your business will stand out that much more and be even more effective than usual.
If your cash flow is lower than usual now, here are some inexpensive ways to market your business:
* Create and send an ezine regularly to your subscribers.
If you don’t have an opt-in form on your web site, get one, even if you need to pay a web professional to help you. Then send your subscribers valuable content on a regular basis to build a relationship with them. Nothing will help you economy-proof your business better than a loyal group of subscribers who will buy from you.
* Submit articles to article directories and ezine publishers.
The easiest way to create these articles is to repurpose them from your ezine. I use my blog articles with a few modifications. You can submit articles manually – that certainly takes the least cash – but there are services and software to help you accomplish the submissions.
* Start attending more networking meetings.
These groups are usually not expensive to join and can be very helpful. I’d focus on the ones that emphasize giving and receiving referrals rather than just generic meet-and-greet types of groups if your goal is to increase cash flow now.
* List your web site in the numerous web site directories.
Start with http://www.dmoz.com which only accepts manual submissions. After that, you have the option of submitting your site manually or using a service. Once again, I suggest using a service. This is a one-time job for each site you have and should cost less than $150 for hundreds of submissions.
* Find blogs and forums to add your comments to.
This is entirely free, but can be time consuming. You want to find blogs and forums who attract your target market, and then find posts within them where you have something useful to add to the conversation.
* Develop a presence on some of the social networking sites.
I like Facebook and Twitter. These types of sites can provide another way to build a following of people interested in you and what you have to offer.
* Maximize the effectiveness of your affiliate program.
If you don’t have an affiliate program, set one up. If you already have one, create some additional resources – buttons, articles, email messages – to help your affiliates sell your products and send them a message telling them about the new tools. You can have a sales force out there advertising your products and you only need to pay them after they’ve help make sales.
* Similarly, think about joint venture partnerships.
Reinvigorate any you already have, suggesting a new mailing to their lists. And look for additional partners with lists that would be willing to work with you.
* Seek out opportunities to speak before groups.
These events could be trade show seminars, local business associations, or corporate luncheons – anywhere you can get in front of your target market. Speaking can be one of the best ways to get more business quickly.
Many inexpensive marketing activities are available for small businesses. Pick several that appeal to you and allow you to become visible to your potential customers and get busy!
If you have other low-cost marketing techniques you use, please leave a comment and share them with everyone.

How To Start A Vending Machine Business – Find Locations Fast!
July 23, 2008 by chrisr1
Here are a few tips and some of the best ways to find locations for your vending machines. Learning the ropes around the vending business is not as hard as you think if you have the right information.
By far this has got to be the most popular question around because people are always trying to figure out “Hey, I can get the machines because they are all over the place.
I just need to figure out how to get them into these companies and on location.” What you are going to want to do is actually start implementing some different tactics and strategies.
Cold calling, using your local business directory, going to your local business department, getting your phone number listed in the telephone directory. These are all some of the basics that you want to actually get started with for finding locations and getting your business up and running.
Also getting comfortable with talking to people, because the more and more comfortable you get with talking with people, the better your going to get at it. In the beginning I was fumbling over my words.
I didn’t even know what I was really saying; I just knew that I wanted to do something. Eventually, after I talked with more and more people I became more comfortable and confident and actually now, I have pretty much refined my content of what I say to people. I can answer their questions with a lot of confidence.
Eventually part of your marketing plan is going to be the advertising. You have to think that companies out there in your community are looking for vending services right now. What you have to do is get yourself in front of them so you can deliver your message.
For years I would look up at the big companies and think, How can I compete with these guys? Well you know what, I did my homework and research and found a way. Now, I have companies calling me for help, looking for me, instead of me going to them.
At the end of the day, eventually you want to get advertising in some different forms. Using the internet, telephone directories and yellow page listings are part of it.
The only issue is that there is a cost involved with advertising. Building a website to promote your business is another strategy. There are different strategies that you can start to utilize on the internet, where people can find you and you can position yourself in a way so that you can give them the information that they require.
Maybe they will call you or even send you an e mail. Eventually that is the part of the business that you want to do. Can it be done? Sure it can be done. Is it something that your competition is doing? Yes, some of them are doing it. Are they doing it well? Probably not as well as you might think. Is there an opportunity for you to actually do something here? Sure there is, there is totally an opportunity here.
So take some time to research what the costs involved are going to be before using some of these strategies. You want to make sure that you are making money with your advertising investments.
Which Machines Are The Best Performing & Don’t Require A Lot Of Maintenance?
In my view, basically, to start with the best performing that don’t require a lot of maintenance is really snack machines. They don’t have as many moving parts, as say a pop machine or a coffee machine vending machine. They have a light, the fan, the motors that turn the snack coils and they have a computer board.
I find the least amount of problems with snack machines. Pop machines you can get more in to the can jams and things like that. Pop machines are pretty economical, they are great. They work great.
Sometimes you get a coin jam or something like that. I don’t get a lot of breakdowns because I keep the machines clean and working. I don’t really have a lot of problems, so in my view pop and snack vending machine would be the best performing.
Once you get in to coffee and food, it can be a little more intricate, because the coffee machines have a lot more moving parts. They have hoses and coffee grinds are going through. You have to keep cleaning them all the time.
Then there are the food machines which have the compressors and the big trays that move around. They are bigger machines. It is going to be a little bit more expensive once you get into the food and coffee end of things, especially if you have to start fixing things.

Why Your Small Business Needs a Web Site

Does your small business have a web site? If not, you are missing a huge opportunity. In this article, I will explain the benefits and opportunities small businesses can gain with a website.
First, let’s define “small business”. Drive down the main street in any town, and you will see everything from taco shops, pizza places, coffee shops to gift shops, travel agencies, and dry cleaners, and the list goes on.
We all know the world is changing, but when it comes to your business, what is changing is the way your customers find your business.
I recently threw my phone book away because I felt as if I didn’t really need it anymore. Here’s why, let’s say you’re at the office and your computer printer gives you an error message and quits. You could thumb threw the phone book in search of a repairman, or you could simply type the error message in to your favorite search engine in your computer’s browser, and in minutes know the problem, the parts you need, and the business that sells the parts.
Here is another example. You are out of town in your car and would like to locate one a pizza place, but you have no idea were to find one. Simply type in pizza and a city into Google maps, and pick the one you like, with directions. In fact, the new iphone with GPS has software that lets you know all the restaurants around you. That is great, unless your restaurant not on the list.
Yes, the way the world finds your small business is changing. That is why your small business needs a web site. It doesn’t have to be fancy or expensive. It could be just a single web page with a photo and information about your business. You just need a presence on the web.
You have a couple of options. If you like to do things your self, there are programs available with pre-built templates in which you could have a web site up and running very quickly, and for as little as five to twelve dollars a month. The second option is to have a designer build a professional web site for you. This cost is a little more per month with prices ranging from forty nine to eighty nine dollars.
As you can see it is very inexpensive to have a presence on the internet, but it could be very expensive if new customers don’t know you are there.

10 Easy Ways To Blast Your Sales Into The Stratosphere
July 15, 2008 by jmforest
With the information deluge we all feel buried under at times, it’s often easy to forget to do the little, albeit important steps to keep your customers happy and coming back. Here are ten steps to remind yourself to do each day, and hopefully increase your sales:
1) Make sure to follow up with your customer after the sale. Send them a “Thank You” email and include an ad for other related products you sell. You could also include a discount coupon e.g. 10% on their next order.
2) Always “up-sell” to your customers. If you’re not doing this regularly, you’re leaving a lot of money on the table.
When the customer is on the order page, credit card in hand, tell them about a few extra related products you have for sale…products that complement the one they’re buying. Offer these at a discount e.g. 30% discount.
3) Provide an “opt-in” box requesting the first names and email addresses of e.g. five friends of the customer “who might be interested” in your products.
Thank your customer for providing the referrals by giving him/her a valuable free gift (ebook, software, etc..)
4) Offer an affiliate program. Pay your affiliates at least 50% (75% is even better). If an affiliate doesn’t make a sale, you owe him/her nothing. If they do make sales, however, you both make money, so it’s a “win-win” situation.
5) Sell the reprint/reproduction rights to your products. You could include an ad for your other products you sell. You would then make sales for the reprint/reproduction rights and sales on the “back-end” products.
6) I’m not sure exactly why this isn’t done more often, but seriously consider doing a “co-reg” with another marketer in your niche whose products complement yours. Cross-promote each others products in a package deal.
On the “Thank You” page, you could each have either a featured product or an opt-in box for more information from one another’s customers.
Not only will you increase sales, you can each double your “opt-in list” e.g. receive 50 new sign-ups instead of only 25!
7) If you ship products, always include a discount coupon and a flyer advertising your other products.
Send your customer a detailed email or a catalog of add-on/or other products for the original product they purchased. This includes upgrades, special services, attachments, etc.
9) Sell gift certificates for your products. When you sell the certificate, either the purchaser or the gift recipient may purchase other items from your website.
10) Always offer a “freebie”. Just make sure your ad is displayed on the package. This is an especially effective marketing strategy if the “freebie” is a t-shirt, cap, bumper sticker, or even a golf ball or pen. Other people will see your ad and order.

Buying A Used Soda Vending Machine Could Save You Thousands!
July 15, 2008 by chrisr1
When getting started in the vending machine business and you want to buy a used soda vending machine when starting out you would be making a very wise choice.
You see the vending business is all about making an investment in equipment which is purchasing a vending machine. Then getting it placed on a high traffic quality location. Next you will want see some good sales running through the machine which will ultimately result in your making a good profit.
Now that is a good business investment. But sometimes when people get started in this business they over pay for their vending machines. They might buy a new machine for way to much money then regret that they ever got into this business in the first place.
Sometimes it may even be worse if they get sucked into an opportunity seminar and buy a few machines for even more money. This is by far the worst way to get started in the vending machine business.
What you want to do is take your time and make some smart educated decisions before diving in head first. Start slowly buying only one machine at a time.
My advice is to get started by buying a used soda vending machine because there are many of them out on the market and you can pick one up relatively cheap.
Are you any good at maybe cleaning up a machine? How about putting a fresh coat of paint on the machine? Then you can buy a machine from someone then spend a little time doing some cosmetic clean up to it then place it on a location. This way you can get away with spending a few hundred dollars instead of spending thousands.
So where do you find some quality used vending machines in your area? Use your local newspaper or search engine.
These avenues will provide you with the best luck for finding quality vending machines for your business. Look at your local buy & sell websites and newspapers, or just type into your search engine used soda vending machine and see what comes up.
You will probably see a list of websites that will be selling some used equipment. At the end of the day it is your hard earned money and how you spend it when getting started in this business is really up top you. You will find that buying used over new in vending machines will save you thousands in the long run.

Having trouble finding your career? Why not try to get into business?
Start your own small business and fulfill the success that you desire. However starting a business is not an easy task. It needs lot of preparation, research and motivation. There are some things that you should take into considerations to so that you would not waste your time and money.
First you must decide what kind of business you would put up. It is recommended to put up your own business where you have enough knowledge. Also choose what interest you most and you will enjoy a lot. Make your mind up if you want to franchise or start with your own and unique business. Decide also whether you want a sole proprietorship or in a partnership.
In sole proprietorship, you will be the boss and all the decision will come from you. Sole Trader is the easiest and less expense way of starting a small business. This can be done by finding a good location and opens a door for a good business. It only needs small fees to obtain the registration of the business name. A fee such as accountant and lawyer fees is less because it only needs little preparation of documents.
On the other hand, partnership is a type of business ownership where two or more people manages and own the business. There are two types of partnership: the general and limited partnership. General partnership is formed by two or more owner through an oral agreement but it is still highly recommended to have a legal agreement. In this type of business, partners are the both responsible for any decision and business action made.
After you decide on the kind of business you want, you should now identify the role of your business. Will it be a demand in the market or is this practical? To be able to gain a profit with your own business, of course it should be a common need of every individual. If not make it a demand for every person and let them realize how important your service or product is.
Consider also the competitors and the advantages of your business to others. Always bring a quality service and product to your customers. Make some modification with your business so that it would look like unique compare to your competitors where people would prefer you more. Select the best location where people can easily find your place.
And of course the most important thing in starting a small business is the capital. You must have enough budgets to sustain the necessary supplies and equipments that you need to start your business. It maybe a small or big amount it depends on the range of your business.
Now you have in your mind a good potential business to put up. Create a clear and detailed business plan to see your business idea and how your business will work. If it contains all the necessary items you need you’ll know if it is the time to start the business. Starting a small business requires a lot of research and patience. You must also be resourceful so that you would be able to provide all the things needed by your business and of course your customers. Always provide the quality service in your customers.
